With a dedication to the instructions given in Matthew 25, the Union Rescue Mission of Western Maryland Meal Program exists to ensure that no one goes hungry. We provide hot, nutritious meals three times per day, 365 days per year, served in a safe and temperature-controlled environment for our residents at our Centre Street facility.
In addition to serving our residents, the Union Rescue Mission provides carry-out meals to the local community and to anyone in need. These meals are available for pickup at our former location, 16 Queen City Pavement, with breakfast served at 8:30 a.m., lunch at 12:00 p.m. (no lunch served on Sundays), and dinner at 5:30 p.m.
A vital component of our food ministry is the distribution of food boxes. Food boxes are available through our main office at 710 N. Centre Street, Monday through Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., while supplies last. These food boxes are designed to help individuals and families meet immediate nutritional needs beyond a single meal and provide support during times of transition and hardship. In addition, food pantry drop distributions are held at 16 Queen City Pavement on Tuesdays and Fridays at 3:15 p.m., with items distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
As believers and defenders of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we stand firmly opposed to the evils of racism, discrimination, injustice, and violence against all people, especially the poor and defenseless. We desire that none go hungry and that all have their nutritional needs met to support the ability to live a healthy and successful life.
Beginning in 2023, we revitalized our meal program to institute an application process that allows staff to sit down with each individual seeking our services. This process is instrumental in developing strong, lasting relationships within the impoverished community and allows us to meet individuals where they are. Through these conversations, we are able to connect individuals with available resources—including meals, food boxes, and additional community support—to help prevent homelessness and promote long-term stability.
